Peruvian artwork is very varied. Much of the traditional art is found in the Andes mountains where the descendants of the Inca civilization live. An example of a traditional piece of Peruvian art is the Tumi. The Tumi was used for sacrifices and was even used for brain surgery by the early Incas! Nowadays, the Tumi is a tradtional decoration hung in many Peruvian homes. It is said to bring about good luck…
Another important part of Peruvian artwork is the alpaca. These are animals slightly smaller than llamas and are very furry. Their fur is used for many pieces of Peruvian art, such as the very popular poncho. The alpaca wool is incredibly soft and of a very high quality. That is why there are many different types of products made from it.
Of course, there are many other forms of art in Peru. Mainly, the traditional Peruvian clothing has very bright colors. Nowadays, this clothing is used mostly for only special ceremonies and dances.
